The Chief Architect role, reporting directly to the CTO, is responsible for developing and driving technology vision across BGCP and BGNP. Vonage has an industry leading communications portfolio that delivers rich communication services (CPaaS, UCaaS, CCaaS) and digital workflows for global customers in telehealth, financial, education, retail, ecommerce, marketing, logistics, and many other industries.

In this unique and highly strategic role, the person will work closely with engineering leaders, distinguished engineers, and product leaders to define and help execute the next phase of BGCP and BGNP that focuses on the following key objectives:

• Standardized architecture for key services across our multiple platforms and acquisitions into one common platform, one common domain that offers rich communication services and APIs for our global customers.
• Deliver Cloud First (Cloud-native), API First, Security First, and AI Powered platform that is resilient, scalable, and easily extensible to rapidly build new applications and services.
• Built on micro-services architecture and orchestration that allows us to rapidly build products and services and monetize them multiple times across the entire Vonage customer base.
• Future-proof our ability to quickly integrate new acquisitions and enhance our ability to exploit new market opportunities.
• Exposing a unified Developer Experience across all domains with API First DNA.
• Eliminating overhead and redundant work when developing new APIs.

This person is expected to provide hands-on architecture leadership, guidance, and facilitate efficient and strategic decision making towards the objectives listed above. It is expected and critical that the candidate will be a close collaborator and trusted advisor to engineering and product leaders and our distinguished engineers. This person will be a thought-leader, with real-world business strategic sense, technology and product vision for the industry, and the ability to collaborate across functions. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of SaaS platforms, modern software, cloud, and communications technologies and proven industry experience at scale. This person is expected to have exceptional communication and negotiation skills, who works effectively with distinguished engineers as well as business stakeholders including BU leaders, Ericsson leaders, CISO, CMO, and other members of the executive team. Finally, this person, in support of the CTO, will be a key contributor and communicator of the platform technology vision, strategy, and roadmap progress to internal and external stakeholders.

Experience and Education Requirements

• Demonstrable experience in industry, with a background in software engineering, cloud & SaaS – with recent experience working in a similar role.
• Demonstrated impact through increasingly challenging and strategic technology and architectural leadership roles throughout the candidate’s career journey.
• Demonstrated industry leadership (in building and scaling) innovative solutions.
• Experience working in a technology-forward organization that has gone through significant growth.
• Passion & experience of driving and maintaining high standards across global technology teams.
• Advanced Engineering education.
• Further leadership / business / strategy training (e.g. EMBA) is not required but is a plus.
