ActionAid is an international charity that works with women and girls living in poverty. Our dedicated local staff are changing the world with women and girls. We are ending violence and fighting poverty so that all women, everywhere, can create the future they want.
Are you a talented communications professional and leader, with a passion for engaging the public and inspiring people-powered change? Are you looking to use your skills to help change the world with women and girls? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
The Deputy Director of Media, Campaigns and Public Engagement provides strategic leadership and management to the Media, Campaigns and Public Engagement teams, and plays an active role as part of ActionAid’s wider leadership group. They are responsible for overseeing the inception, development and execution of innovative media, campaigning and public engagement strategies and events that are aligned to AAUK’s strategy and build the organisation’s identity as the a ‘go to’ agency on the rights of women and girls.
This varied role is key to helping us increase the profile of our vital work, influence for change and attract and engage new supporters. It combines opportunities to work across public engagement events and projects, collaborate on political influencing strategies and raise awareness of ActionAid’s work via overseeing impactful news, PR, celebrity/influencer and social media opportunities. In addition to this, the role is responsible for monitoring and responding to reputational risk, and for leading the development and management of cause-related marketing partnerships. No two days are the same!
The successful candidate will have proven management skills, along with the confidence and commitment to set ambitious targets. Strong relationship-building and communication skills are also essential, as well as the ability to manage deadlines and rapidly changing priorities. This role works closely with colleagues and teams across the whole organisation, and so we are looking for a natural collaborator who will champion – and drive – cross-organisational alignment.
If you have these skills and experience, this may be the role for you.
ActionAid is committed to driving improvement through digital channels, tools and ways of working. We will ensure that we provide the technology and the training to enable all staff to perform their roles to the best of their abilities. Our recruitment processes will evaluate the digital skills of all applicants.
ActionAid is committed to supporting flexible working. If you would like to discuss flexible working options, including the possibility of a job share for this role, there will be space to do so during the interview process
